Security tightened, searches intensified after J&K civilian killings

Security has been increasingly improved and the search was intensified throughout the Kashmir Valley, especially in the Capital of Srinagar, following a series of targeted killings that killed 11 civilians this month. The authorities have suspended or reduced the speed of cellular internet services in several parts of the old city of Srinagar and South Kashmir District, where the attack was reported lately.

Officials said several security review meetings had been held and the number of security forces were deployed around major installations such as the Secretariat and Airport and had increased. “This type of attack clearly attracts a larger security response. We have intensified the steps in the type and number wherever we think it is necessary,” said an official, who did not want to be named.
Several checkpoints and obstacles have been established throughout Srinagar. “Security is very strict, and the search has increased. The police and CRPF (central reserve police forces) have patrolled a larger number and also have a search for vehicles suddenly …” said Bilal Ahmad, a resident of Srinagar.
The number of bulletproof mobile bunker vehicles deployed in sensitive places has also increased and high-tech CCTV supervision is increased. Women’s paramilitary forces have also been deployed at Lal Chowk Srinagar for search.

The second resident said the attack suddenly changed the city atmosphere. “There is an uncomfortable silence. Fewer people prefer to move afraid of the situation setback.”
The police have detained and questioned hundreds of people as part of their investigation into civilian killings. The counter operation of the counter has also been intensified. Police last week said they killed 13 terrorists.
News Minister Union Amit Shah is likely to visit Kashmir in the last week of October to review the security situation and also inaugurate a development project.
