Hong Kong city 'overwhelmed' by Omicron wave, says leader

Hong Kong Health Facilities has been charged by “attack” Covid-19 infection, its leader said, as an increase in Omicron cases threatened to drop the “zero-covid” policy of the city.

The authorities have adhered to China’s mainland policy to issue the smallest outbreak with bulk quarantine, widespread tracking, and prolonged social distance steps since the commencement of Pandemic.

But the highly contagious Omicron variant violates the defense of China at the end of December, accumulating more than 8,000 infections within a few weeks with researchers warn that everyday cases can exceed 25,000 next month.

While the infection rate remains low compared to major cities around the world, Hong Kong’s policy to send even asymptomatic cases to hospitals and quarantine facilities has filled the bed and strengthens waiting time.

The fifth wave of epidemics has handled a heavy blow to Hong Kong and flooded the city handling capacity,” Carrie Lam leader said in a statement issued Sunday night.

The surge in the case has increased the waiting time “because it acknowledged the people who tested positive isolation facilities,” he added.

Surrounded by patients who queued for tests all week, the city hospital on Sunday told people who were stable or having mild symptoms” to stay at home.

But Lam said the government “will not try to implement the” zero covid “strategy and that China will help the city to improve quarantine testing and resources.

Hong Kong has struggled to persuade his elemental population to vaccinate with only around 50 percent of people over the age of 70 accept Jab.

The government has repeatedly said the policy of “zero covid” is intended to buy more time for them to be fully investigated.

The researchers warned Friday that at the end of March, the city could collect 28,000 daily infections. Hong Kong only recorded a touch of more than 12,000 cases at the end of 2021.

Last week marked the first Covid-19 city of the city in five months, with seven patients more than 70 and one four-year-old child fell into the virus.

On Monday, the authorities said two elderly patients had died, and the level of hospital work now at 90 percent – which is the limit.
