Afghan Taliban Stop Pakistan Army From Fencing International Border
Kabul / Peshawar, Pakistan (Reuters) – The Taliban Army in Afghanistan disrupted the establishment of the security fence by the Pakistani military along the border between the two countries, Afghan officials said on Wednesday.
Pakistan has been lined up with a large extent of 2,600 km (1,615 miles) despite protests from Kabul, who always oppose the demarcation of the British era boundary which divides the family and tribes on both sides.
Afghan defense spokesman Enayangullah Khwarazmi said the Taliban troops stopped the Pakistani military to establish a “illegal” border fence throughout the East Province of Nangarhar on Sunday.
He played the incident, said everything was normal. Pakistani soldiers did not respond to a comment request.
A video circulated on social media shows the Taliban army has seized barbed wire scrolls and one official anniversary of the Pakistani army placed at a security post in the distance did not try to get a border fence again.
Reuters cannot verify videos independently.
Taliban spokesman Bilal Karim said they were investigating the incident.
The Taliban and Pakistani forces came face to face to the border incident, two Taliban officials told Reuters in the condition of anonymity, and the situation was tense.
They added that following the incident there was a cross-border mortar fire from the Pakistani region farther north along the border to the Province of Kunar Afghanistan on Wednesday.
It is not clear whether the incident was linked. Officials said Afghan military helicopters could be seen patrolling the area.
