Hours after Kabul mosque blast, Taliban destroy IS cell in Afghan capital

The hour after the explosion killed several people outside the mosque in the Capital of Afghanistan Kabul on Sunday, the Taliban destroyed the cell of the Islamic State in Kabul, according to the AFP news agency on Monday.

Taliban’s main spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that fighters carried out operations in the north of Kabul on Sunday night. “As a result of surgery, which is very firm and successful, the center is destroyed and all members in it are killed,” Mujahid shares the news on Twitter.

Some witnesses and AFP journalists heard gunshots and explosions in Kabul when the Taliban did surgery. Abdul Rahaman, a resident in the capital working with the government stated that the special forces of the Islamic Emirates attacked at least three residences in his neighborhood, added, the battle took place for hours.

At least five victims were reported and 11 were injured in a Sunday bomb blast in Kabul. The people in the Eid Mosque held a ceremony in the memory of Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid’s Mother, who died in the previous week. Quoting the initial input, Mujahid said on Monday that those responsible for the explosion right outside the mosque might have become a group associated with Daesh.

A government cultural commission official, in anonymity condition, told AFP that three people were arrested in connection with the explosion. The explosion planted at the entrance of the mosque exploded when people left the place after offering the condolences to Mujahid and his family, the official added.

Meanwhile, a witness at the mosque told the news agency the attack was carried out by a single suicide bomber. A group of Taliban members, who were inside the land of the mosque were under fire after the explosion and took two victims, the witness said.

He also added that two Taliban units accidentally opened fire with each other because of confusion after the explosion. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs spokesman Qari Sayed Khosti denied reports about any shots.
